My Pregnancy Is None of Your Business

One thing I learned while I was pregnant with my son is that everyone thinks it’s their business to know the ins and outs of your pregnancy.

Did you have a C-section or vaginal birth? Do you breastfeed or bottle feed? Did you get an epidural or do it naturally? The questions go on, and on, and on.

The judgement starts before you even have your baby.

So, moms listen up! Because I know some of you are feeling guilty with all of the mom shaming going on out there.

It is no one’s damn business whether you had a C-section or vaginal birth. Whether you breastfed or bottle fed. Whether you had an epidural or did it all naturally.

YEP. I said it. It’s not your mother-in-law’s business, your next door neighbors, the moms on your nosy FaceBook group, or your best friends..

Some mothers don’t have a choice, in any of the above.

And even if they did, it’s still NONE of your business.

I did NOT have a choice.

But you know what? I don’t feel guilty over it.

So many people tried to make feel ashamed for some of these things that were out of my control, and that is not okay.

Do you hear me?

It is NOT okay for people to be shaming you for things that they know nothing about.

But here’s what is okay….

My son! He was born via C-section at 33 weeks and 3 days to keep him safe and alive.

I am also okay. Actually… let me rephrase… I am FABULOUS!

I had a C-section to keep myself and my unborn child safe and alive.

And you know what? I’d do it a million times over if I had to!

Healthy mommy and healthy baby. That was our goal, obviously.

I never breastfed.

I’ll let that one sink in for a minute, because moms are shaming me all over the world for it, but I don’t care!

Do you want to know why?

BECAUSE MY BABY WAS FED. Period.

Breastfed, bottle fed, or fed from a tube. He did not go hungry.

My lactation consultant (because yes, I saw one many times) even said, “a fed and healthy baby is all that matters.”

So all of you in the cheap seats, with your bold opinions about how mommy’s should be mom-ing it up, you can sit the hell down.

My pregnancy/birth plan/breastfeeding plan/etc. is none of your business.

We all know what an ideal pregnancy/birth plan/breastfeeding plan/etc. looks like. WE KNOW.

So for those of you who enjoy vocalizing your distaste of it all – because there are plenty of you out there – you can sit. the. hell. down.

Every mother has the same goal – healthy mommy and healthy baby – and there is more than one route to get you there.

So, you do you, mommas! And don’t you feel guilty for one single second about it!
