Christmas Traditions

As an adult, I look back on my childhood and appreciate certain Christmas traditions, so it was important to me that we create some of those same memories for our son Archer. He may only be 4 months old and never remember this first Christmas, but we want to start while he’s young so it creates a habit for years to come. Plus, they’re memories for us too, right?

This year we’re starting a new tradition with my side of the family. We’ve always done chili and gifts on Christmas Eve, at least for as long as I can remember, but this year we’re adding a new element to it. Everyone is getting a new pair of Christmas PJs, and all of the kiddos are getting a “Christmas Eve Box” which will contain things like the pajamas, hot coco, a personalized hot coco mug, Christmas socks, a stuffed animal (in this case it’s a stuffed elf with their name on it), chocolate, a Christmas movie, a Christmas book, and one final ornament to hang on the tree that night.

The box will also contain Reindeer Food, which I’ve been making for my nephews since my oldest one was born (this year I cheated and bought it at Hobby Lobby, not even gonna lie about that). It’s for them to sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve so that the reindeers make sure and come to their house!

Then, on Christmas Eve, in our Christmas PJs, we’ll sit around as a family, eating our snacks, drinking our hot coco, and watch one of the Christmas movies together in front of the fire. It’s nothing crazy, but it sounds like the perfect night to me – relaxing as one big family together, getting in the Christmas spirit!

What is your favorite Christmas tradition?!
