When I found out I was pregnant, one of the first things I did was look at Pinterest. Because hellooo.. nursery ideas! The first thing that populated when I looked up “gender neutral nursery” was a cactus nursery. It was at that very moment that I knew I had to have it! The one thing I miss most is living in Arizona, and the one thing Arizona has is a buttload of cactus.. and wa-la.. just like that my quest to create a gender neutral cactus themed nursery begun!
The one thing I knew I had to have for the nursery was cactus wallpaper. I went on a quest to figure out which wallpaper I wanted, and picked everything else out with that as my starting point. I found the cactus wallpaper online and made a custom order. It’s peel and stick, so if we ever sold our house, it would be super easy to take the wallpaper off without damaging the walls and deterring any potential buyers. The drapes, bench and small ottoman are from Target, the bedding is from Amazon, and most of the wall decor is from Hobby Lobby, Home Goods and At Home. I made the mobile myself using various wool felt balls and animals I found on Etsy.
All in all, I think the room came together pretty well for having zero vision other than cactus wallpaper. Had we ended up having a girl instead of a boy, I wouldn’t have changed anything decor wise. I think blue and green stands for a strong girl – so don’t let that deter you if you’re expecting a little miss! 🙂
I’ve since changed the little reading nook area a bit – added a lamp, removed the stuffed animals, put pictures in the small picture frame, etc.
The barn door is there as a decorative piece to hide the ugly attic door behind it. I think it’s cute though, because it looks like our son has his own little man cave!
