Miss To Mrs.

When I got married in September, I had no idea how trying it was going to be to change my name, and I had no idea where to start. Luckily, before I was too deep into researching it myself, a friend of mine recommended the website Miss Now Mrs., and I never looked back!

I created an account with Miss Now Mrs., and filled out a few brief questions initially. Once I answered the first set of questions – easy stuff, like your name, spouses name, state of residence, etc., the website then asked questions regarding state requirements, and situation specific stuff. From the answers on the questionnaires, the page then autocompletes the pertinent name change forms, like Social Security, US Passport, State Driver’s License, USPS and State Voter Registration forms, as well as letters to notify your creditors. The fact that it auto populates basically ALL of this information, is such a time saver! That, and the fact that you don’t have to go searching for the appropriate forms online had me hooked.

Once the forms were all filled out, I printed them, which also printed off directions with where to send them, what to include with them (a check, form of identification..) and so on.. I think the best part about that, is that they tell you which form to file first! Had I not read the directions before going around trying to change my name, I would have likely spent a lot of time wasted at the DMV before finding out that I had to change my name with Social Security first.

Places you should change your name include some of the following:

  • Social Security
  • DMV
  • Passport
  • IRS
  • Voter Registration
  • Social Media (had to throw that one out there)
  • Email Name
  • Bank Accounts
  • Credit Cards
  • 401k
  • Other Retirement Accounts
  • Mortgage
  • Utilities
  • Medical – don’t forget your insurance card! Luckily, my work did that one for me without me even asking!
  • Insurance
  • Professional Licenses
  • Investments
  • Address Labels
  • Return Address Labels
  • At Work
  • Doctor’s Offices – only once your insurance changes your name
  • Pharmacy – only once your insurance changes your name
  • Living Will/Will

The last thing I want to mention in this post is that I was NOT paid/sponsored in any way to recommend Miss Now Mrs. – I did however use the program first hand when I got married, and paid for it myself.
